Continuing the Legacy of Dr. King Each year the Martin Luther King Jr. Coalition coordinates a series of events on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. The Coalition’s 44th annual MLK Day celebration in Cincinnati is on Monday, January 20, 2020. Dedicated to keeping Dr. King’s legacy vibrant in Cincinnati, the MLK Coalition presents a series of events for 2020. Please join us as we begin to rehearse for the 2020 MLK Jr. commemorative program, this year at the Music Hall. Rehearsals are at First United Church of Christ 5808 Glenview Ave College Hill, OH 45224. All Rehearsals from 7:00pm-8:00pm unless otherwise stated. Tuesday October 15; Oct.22; Oct. 29 Tuesday November 12; Nov, 19; Nov, 26 Tuesday December 3; Dec. 10, Dec, 17. Tuesday January 7; Jan.14 Saturday January 18, final rehearsal 11:00 am -!2:30 pm. followed by social and community luncheon Sunday January 19 possible performance for the College Hill community Time and place to be announced. 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19 DAVE BRUBECK’S THE GATES OF JUSTICE CCM Chorale and Brass Choir Featuring the Phil DeGreg Trio and guest choir The Martin Luther King Chorale Brett Scott, conductor Originally premiered in 1969 for the dedication of Cincinnati’s Rockdale Temple, Dave Brubeck’s The Gates of Justice was a co-commission by CCM and the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, with a premiere conducted by Erich Kunzel. The text is drawn from the Hebrew Bible, speeches of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Negro Spirituals, the writings of Hillel and lyrics by the composer’s wife, Iola Brubeck.
